Frequently Asked Questions

SkinDiving 101 : Freediving for Beginners

What is skindiving?

Skindiving takes snorkeling to a whole new level by adding proper techniques and skills such as duck diving and equalization. These skills enable individuals to explore underwater environments efficiently and safely while holding their breath. Skindiving, to some extent, combines elements of both snorkeling and freediving.

What is the difference between SkinDiving 101 and FunDive Program? , Rookies and FunDivers?

The SDPH SkinDiving 101 Program has been personally curated by the SDPH team, catering to both non-swimmers and first-timers seeking a fun and safe introduction to skindiving. Participants in this program are affectionately called ‘Rookie students.’ On the other hand, the SDPH FunDive Programs & Packages are designed for those who have learned the basics of skindiving and aim to enhance their skills, confidence, and practice in open water alongside fellow divers. We fondly refer to them as ‘Fundivers.’

I don't know how to swim or float without life-vest can I still join the acitivity?

Absolutely! Our Co-founder, Beverlyn, embarked on her skindiving journey as a non-swimmer sevenyears ago, with zero swimming skills. Today, she is a Molchanovs Certified Freediver and a Licensed Mermaid Instructor!

Moreover, our SkinDiving 101 Program was personally curated by her and the team to cater specifically to both non-swimmers and first-timers.

Believe that you can do it too, and leave the rest to us. 😉

What is the age requirement?
  • Participants must be at least 12 years old.
  • Students below 18 years old should be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the class.
  • Students below 14 years old should possess adequate swimming skills and be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the class.
Is there a depth requirement for the rookies (students)?

None. Our main objective is for our students to learn while enjoying the process. We prioritize creating a comfortable, relaxed, safe, and confident environment in deep water.

I have asthma, high blood pressure, vertigo, sinus problem, heart condition, history of ear damage, allergies, etc... can I still join?

If you have any of the above-mentioned health conditions (or any health condition), obtaining a medical clearance from a licensed physician is mandatory for your safety and to prevent potential injury before participating in the skindiving activity.

What is the required swimming attire?

Preferably, wear a long-sleeved rash guard and leggings to for sun exposure and jellyfish protection. Opt for materials such as polyester or nylon. Avoid swimwear made of cotton, as it may sag, drag, and could potentially lead to wardrobe malfunctions.

Can I wear a swimsuit?

Certainly! However, we recommend wearing your rashguard and leggings on Day 1 to protect yourself from sun exposure and sea stings. This allows you to focus more on your skills and techniques during the open water class.

Additionally, please be aware that swimming attire that is excessively revealing is strictly prohibited. We encourage you to stay both sexy and classy!

Do I need to buy a new set of skindiving equipment ?

Hold off on purchasing equipment for now. There are factors to consider before making a purchase, and we’ll guide you on choosing the right dive equipment during our class. If you already have your own equipment, feel free to bring it.

Moreover, the rental of basic skindiving equipment, including a low-volume mask, snorkel, and short fins, is already included in our rate. If you prefer, brand new sets are also available.
